Lightning Protection for Barns & Farmhouses

    Barn Lightning Protection

We install lightning rods with wire connections to the ground for barns. If lightning strikes the barn, it won’t bother your horses because the rods will absorb the brunt of it.

    Lightning Protection for Trees

Lightning protection devices from WB Lightning Rods can lessen the likelihood of harm from a  lightning strike. In order to mitigate the risk of tree damage and carry the electrical charge to the soil, where the energy is diffused, lightning protection systems use copper conductors coupled to a ground rod. Our technologies have a strong track record of safeguarding trees, and also lessen the possibility of a side-flash to neighboring structures.

The lightning rod, which Benjamin Franklin invented in 1749, is a metal pole mounted atop a building that draws lightning’s electrical charge away from the structure. The rod is attached to an aluminum or copper cable that’s connected to an underground conductive grid.

    • The installation was quick and with first rate. materials. The Tampa Bay area holds a US record for the number of thunderstorms per year. I think that one week after installation the RV storage building that is protected by the lightning rods was struck. Aside from one gosh awful noise there was no damage.

Why Lightning Protections Systems are Crucial in Rhode Island?

In Rhode Island, lightning protection systems are crucial due to the state’s susceptibility to thunderstorms and lightning strikes, especially during the warmer months. Lightning protection systems typically consist of lightning rods, conductors, and grounding systems designed to safely redirect lightning strikes away from structures, preventing damage and minimizing the risk of fire or injury.

Here are some key points regarding lightning protection systems in Rhode Island:

    1. Local Regulations: Rhode Island may have specific building codes or regulations regarding lightning protection systems, which are typically based on national standards such as NFPA 780 (National Fire Protection Association) and UL 96A (Underwriters Laboratories). It’s important to consult local authorities or building codes to ensure compliance with regulations.
    2. Installation: Lightning protection systems should be installed by qualified professionals who are familiar with local building codes and industry standards. Installation typically involves strategically placing lightning rods on the highest points of structures, along with a network of conductors and grounding components.
    3. Inspection and Maintenance: Regular inspection and maintenance of lightning protection systems are essential to ensure their effectiveness. Components should be inspected for damage or corrosion, and any necessary repairs or replacements should be promptly addressed.
    4. Risk Assessment: Conducting a risk assessment can help determine the level of protection needed for a particular structure. Factors such as the structure’s height, location, and surrounding terrain can influence the risk of lightning strikes and the appropriate design of the lightning protection system.
    5. Surge Protection: In addition to lightning protection systems, surge protection devices (SPDs) can be installed to safeguard electrical and electronic equipment within a structure from damage caused by lightning-induced power surges.
    6. Professional Consultation: Consulting with a qualified lightning protection specialist or engineer can help ensure that the lightning protection system is designed and installed correctly to provide optimal protection for the structure and its occupants.

Given the importance of lightning protection in Rhode Island, property owners, builders, and facility managers should prioritize the implementation of effective lightning protection systems to mitigate the risks associated with lightning strikes.
